Privacy Policy

1. Our approach

VBcam is a cosmetic skin-recording app. Standard scan records and the rule-based Skin Condition Age reference are processed on device. Skin photos are not uploaded for research unless you explicitly join the optional VBcam Improvement Program.

2. Standard app data

• Skin photos and optional product/care notes (notes remain on device only)
• Capture date, light mode, quality information, and cosmetic reference metrics
• Purchased products and entitlement status supplied by Apple

Photos and scan records are stored on device. The current version does not use account registration, advertising identifiers, third-party advertising, or behavioral analytics SDKs.

3. Optional Improvement Program

Only users aged 18 or older who explicitly opt in share each captured natural-light, polarized-light, or UV skin image together with derived metrics and quality checks, capture time, image resolution, rule version, an age band, locale, and a random research ID. Under the new consent, central research images are saved at up to 1024px; care notes are not uploaded. Existing participants are asked to opt in again for the updated collection details. When all three light modes are captured in the same session, the record is marked as a complete comparison set. We do not collect a name, email address, phone number, or exact birth date for this program.

4. Purpose and storage

Opted-in data is used to improve VBcam capture-quality checks, cosmetic skin-surface indicators, and future VBcam-specific machine-learning models. It is pseudonymized under a research ID and stored in private storage and databases provided by Cloudflare, Inc. It is not used for advertising, tracking, insurance decisions, or medical diagnosis.

5. Retention and withdrawal

Research data is kept until you withdraw consent or the program ends. Stopping participation in Data & Privacy stops new uploads and deletes stored research images and metrics. Only the random research ID and withdrawal time are retained after deletion to reject delayed uploads. If offline, the app keeps the request and retries when connectivity returns while it is open or on next launch. If you delete the app before completion, contact support with your research ID because the app can no longer retry.

6. Third-party AI and sharing

Research images are not currently sent to third-party generative-AI or AI-model providers. We will identify the provider and purpose and request new consent before any future use. We do not otherwise share collected information except when required by law.

7. Camera and purchases

Camera access is requested only for capture. Apple processes payments; the operator does not receive credit card numbers. The app reads purchase status only to verify entitlements.

8. Not for medical use

Skin Condition Age and other outputs are cosmetic reference values. VBcam does not diagnose, treat, estimate a medical skin age, or provide medical decisions.

9. Choice and contact

Participation is optional and does not change Standard or Premium access. For access or deletion requests, include your research ID and contact us through the support page.
